on Södraskär
In 1836, the king issued the command to build a lighthouse on Utklippan. Construction work started in 1840 and was at first completed two years later.
1870, a 30 m high iron construction (Heidenstam) was built on top to raise the range of the signal.
The lighthouse was meant as a combination of lighthouse and fortress, the guards were living with their families on the island.
Since 1972, it was fully automated, and the staff moved back to the main land.
The lighthouse is out of operation since 2008.
You can visit the lighthouse daily (June-Aug.).
